Indian Men and Women team face very close defeats at the first day of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Bengaluru, 5th April 2018: The Indian Basketball campaign at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games started off with two back to back very close losses. Indian Women’s Team lost 57-66 to Jamaica in a very competitive game whereas the Men’s team lost 87-96 to Cameroon in a game where Cameroon had an unbelievable comeback and took the game away from India’s hands.

India’s Basketball campaign started with the women’s team taking on Jamaica and the game started with a very competitive first quarter with Jamaica leading India by only 2 points, Jamaica had an early lead but thanks to 3 consecutive three pointers by Indian Captain Shireen Limaye that got India back into the game. The following quarters went the same way as India displayed some beautiful ball movement which helped them keep up to pace with Jamaica’s Jennifer George who ended up scoring 19 points along with 19 rebounds. The last quarter started with India lacking by 5 points, but due to consecutive turnovers from the Indian side Jamaica managed to secure an 11 point lead midway through the fourth quarter. India pushed hard on defence but wasn’t able to score on the turnovers of the Jamaican team in the final minutes of the Game. Captain Shireen Limaye led the Indian team with 18 points whereas Forward Jeena Scaria added 12 points.

Next up Indian Men’s Team started their game against Cameroon on a very high noted taking a 12 point lead in the first quarter of the game given India’s exceptional three point shooting performance in the first quarter. Second quarter of the game saw India dominate Cameroon with the help of Forward Amjyot Singh Gill showcasing his offensive expertise and creating a 24 point lead before going to half time. The second half of the game was completely different as Cameroon’s Arnold Kome lead his team to an unexpected comeback cutting down the lead to 12 points at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Cameroon continued on their impressive offensive run as India was unable to convert on their attempts in the fourth quarter and ended the game with a loss.

India surely missed one of their biggest stars Amritpal Singh who didn’t play today due to a left knee injury that happened during the practice sessions.

SC Aggarwal, Chairman & Managing Director, SMC Global Securities Ltd, Sandeep Marwah, President Marwah Studios have discussed the current growth of media and entertainment industry in India. They said there is a plenty of opportunities in both the sectors. Today, Global stakeholders are looking at India. Media and entertainment industry have been the chief contributor of employment generations. Sandeep Marwah told the audience that entertainment industry is the biggest industry in India producing 25,00 films in a year in 28 languages. It is a great achievement. Shankar Aggarwal, officer on duty, ASSOCHAM, in his concluding remarks stressed on financial inclusion of the disadvantaged people of the country. He further said without financial inclusion, safety and sustainability of any industry in India cannot be maintained. In his address, he urged the industry people to set up projects such as Film City in smaller towns so that the people from other parts of the state do not need to migrate to seek employment.

Court find Park Geun-hye guilty of abuse of power gets 24 Yrs Jail

South Korea’s former President Park Geun-hye is found guilty of corruption and sentenced to 24 years in prison.

A court convicted Park of conspiring with her longtime friend and unofficial advisor, Choi Soon-sil, determining Park received millions of dollars in bribes from Samsung Group, the country’s largest conglomerate.

The court also ruled she pressured private companies to give money to 2 foundations closely associated with Choi. Choi is now serving a 20 year prison sentence for the crimes pending an appeal.

The convictions stem from a corruption scandal that engulfed the country in late 2016.

Massive protests rocked South Korea’s politics and Park was eventually impeached.

Park’s lawyers are expected to appeal her jail sentence.

Seoul Central District Court in its verdict on former South Korean president Park Geun-Hye on bribery and other charges.South Korea’s former President Park Geun-hye is found guilty of abuse of power.

The ruling has come on Friday afternoon.

Park was dismissed in March of last year when the Constitutional Court upheld her impeachment. She was indicted the following month.

Park was charged with conspiring with a longtime confidante, Choi Soon-sil, to receive bribes worth about 40 million dollars from Samsung Group, the country’s largest conglomerate. The figure includes sums that were promised.

Prosecutors sought a 30-year prison term for Park and a fine of over 111 million dollars. They say she tarnished the history of national politics by abusing presidential authority for her friend.

Park has consistently proclaimed her innocence.

PM Nepal arrives in India

RBI keeps repo rate unchanged

Reserve Bank on Thursday kept the key policy rate unchanged at 6 per cent for the fourth consecutive time since August last year in view of uncertainties around inflation.Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), headed by RBI Governor Urjit Patel, had last reduced the benchmark lending rate by 0.25 percentage points to 6 per cent last August, bringing it to a 6-year low."The MPC decided to keep the policy repo rate on hold and continue with the neutral stance.

"The MPC reiterates its commitment to achieving the medium term target for headline inflation of 4 per cent on a durable basis," said the first bi-monthly monetary policy for 2018-19.

The repo rate, at which the central bank lends short-term money to other banks, will continue to stay at 6 per cent.

The reverse repo, rate at which it borrows from banks and absorbs excess liquidity, will remain at 5.75 per cent.

The headline inflation after surging to a concerning 5.2 per cent in December last year, cooled off to 5.07 per cent in January and further to 4.4 per cent in February.

RBI has been asked by the government to target inflation at 4 per cent, plus or minus 2 per cent, and its rise beyond the comfort zone will put pressure on the central bank not cut interest rate (repo rate).

Varun Dhawan visited Lakshmibai College in Delhi for October promotions!

This year April will be treating October. Yes ‘October’, the upcoming movie of the talented and handsome actor of B’town Industry Varun Dhawan, which will be releasing this 13th of April. Therefore, Varun is leaving no bars to promote his film. As he visited Lakshmibai College in Ashok Vihar-III to interact with his fans. Even though Varun had a tight shoot schedule throughout the day, he made sure that he did not make his fans waiting in Delhi heat. The girls were so excited to see Varun that he almost got mobbed by them. The entire crowd went crazy and everyone was mesmerized by his charm.

While interacting with students, Varun revealed about his film October, Shoojit Sircar's unique love story, as per him this movie is not a Love Story, but rather a story about love. He appealed everyone to watch the film. The film is completely shot in Delhi at Dwarka with a few portions shot at Connaught Place, New Delhi, and Defence Colony, South Delhi.

Well, Varun will be portraying the character of Dan: A hotel management trainee and career-oriented person. Along with him the movie also stars Banita Sandhu and Gitanjali Rao in lead roles. October is an upcoming 2018 Indian romantic drama film directed by Shoojit Sircar and written by Juhi Chaturvedi. Salman Khan sent to Jodhpur Central Jail

Actor Salman Khan convicted in the Black Buck poaching case, other Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Neelam and Tabu are given the benefit of doubt and acquitted.Prosecution demands six years in prison for Salman Khan.

A Jodhpur court today pronounced verdict in the 19-year-old blackbuck poaching case and convicted Salman Khan, sentencing him to five years in prison. Salman Khan has been fined Rs 10,000. Salman Khan has been taken from court for a medical check-up.

“Salman Khan to be sent to Jodhpur Central Jail, which already has rape accused godman Asaram, Rajsamand’s hate-murder accused Shambhu Lal Raigar, and gang men of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who once threatened to kill Salman”

Vanya Evam Paryavaran Sansth said, We want an immediate appeal to be filed against those who have been acquitted and we also demand maximum punishment for Salman Khan. Rampal Bhawad, State President, Bishnoi Tigers Vanya Evam Paryavaran Sansth, Salman Khan was charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act. The maximum punishment under Section 51 is six years.

All the actors were present in court when the verdict was pronounced.

Salman Khan arrives at the Jodhpur central jail from the Jodhpur rural court where he was sentenced to five years in jail. The roads along the way to the jail are lined with people cheering the verdict. Reports say the actor’s eye welled up in tears the sentencing, even though he was calm during the sentencing. His sisters Alvira and Arpita were with the actor in court.

His lawyers have filed the bail application in the high court and it will be heard at 10:30 am tomorrow. This means he will be spending the night at the Jodhpur Central jail. Salman’s medical examination will be carried out inside the jail where he has now arrived. He will get the same food as that is served to others.
