India beat Iran 38-29 to win Kabaddi World Cup

India has lifted the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup, beating Iran 38-29 in a thrilling final played at Ahmedabad last night. India with a strong comeback performance in the second half beat a resolute Iranian side to become the World Champions, third time.
At the end of first half, the home team trailed Iran 18-13. But with a brilliant second half performance by Ajay Thakur, India staged a comeback as they beat Iran in the title clash. This was India's 3rd World Cup in the Standard Style version of Kabaddi.
President and Prime Minister praised the Indian kabaddi team after it triumphed in the World Cup.
In a tweet, President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated the team. Prime Minister Narendra Modi while congratulating the Indian team said it showed exceptional skills, grit and determination. Sports Minister Vijay Goel also expressed his delight on this achievement.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi also lauded the team on winning the World Cup.
The sporting fraternity too joined in praising the winning team. Olympic medallist boxer Vijender Singh, Cricketers Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, Shuttler Gutta Jwala and Actor Shah Rukh Khan among others came on twitter to express their happiness on the Indian team lifting the title.
