TEAM INDIA CLINCHED THE 3-MATCH TEST SERIES AGAINST SRI LANKA T

CRICKET-SRI-IND
Team India clinched the 3-match Test series against Sri Lanka today by winning the second game at Colombo by an innings and 53 runs. This was India’s first innings win in Sri Lanka. The hosts had resumed play this morning at the overnight score of 209 for 2. They provided some resistance till lunch, with Dimuth Karunaratne scoring a ton. Karunaratne made 141 before Ravindra Jadeja wreaked havoc. Jadeja bagged 5 wickets, taking his overall tally in the game to 11. Ravichandran Ashwin and Hardik Pandya took 2 wickets each as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 386, with a day still to play.
Colombo saw some brilliant individual performances and this dominant Indian side – who have now notched their eighth straight series win – proved a class above. The third and final test begins on Saturday in Kandy,
Yesterday, India after posting a mammoth 622 for 9 declared, had enforced a follow-on on Sri Lanka.
Team India had won the first Test at Galle by 304 runs. The third and final Test will be played at Pallekele from the 12th of this month. The Test series will be followed by 5 One day International matches and one Twenty-20 game.
Colombo, Ravindra Jadeja won’t play in the last Test. Ravindra Jadeja faces suspension, after he was found guilty breaching article 2.2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Player and Player Support Personnel.
Ravindra Jadeja has been suspended for the upcoming Pallekele Test after his accumulated demerit points reached six within a 24-month period following his latest breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for which he received a 50 per cent fine and three demerit points.
According to a statement from the International Cricket Council (ICC), during the third day’s play in the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday, Jadeja was found guilty of breaching article 2.2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Player and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match”.

The charge was laid by on-field umpires Bruce Oxenford and Rod Tucker, third umpire Richard Illingworth and fourth umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge.
All level 2 breaches carry an imposition of a fine between 50 per cent to 100 per cent of the applicable match fee and/or up to two suspension points, and three or four demerit points.
As Jadeja had received a 50 per cent fine and three demerit points during the Indore Test against New Zealand in October 2016 for violating 2.2.11 of the Code, with the addition of Saturday’s three demerit points, he has reached the threshold of four demerit points, which, pursuant to article 7.6 of the Code, have now been converted into two suspension points*.
Following this suspension, the six demerit points will remain on Jadeja’s disciplinary record. If Jadeja reaches the next threshold of eight or more demerit points within a 24-month period, then they will be converted into four suspension points**.
The third Test will be played in Pallekele from 12-16 August.
Virat Kohl, the Skipper said about his teams mates as per ICC sites,
“If as a team you expect to dominate every session you start to go down. So today we thought ‘even if we don’t get wickets early on, we’re going to enjoy these tough times’. It’s all about improving as a side and enjoying all the moments, whether they’re easy or not.
(On Saha) “He’s right up there in the world with the very best. He’s very safe and has been outstanding.
“Other contributions were great throughout the test. Rahane and Pujara – our two best test players as I always say – did brilliantly.”

CAR BOMB IN SOMALI CAPITAL

An explosives-laden car blew up in the centre of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Friday, killing at least one person and injuring another, police said. The vehicle was parked next to a hospital in a busy road that is flanked by several hotels. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, though the Islamist militant group Al Shabaab has launched frequent attacks in the city. “So far, I have seen one dead civilian. She was a woman. One man was also injured,” Mohamed Hussein, a police officer, told Reuters. Al Shabaab is waging an insurgency to overthrow the Western-backed government and drive out African Union peacekeepers in a bid to take over the country and impose its strict interpretation of Islam. The group ruled over large parts of the nation in the Horn of Africa until 2011, when it was driven out of Mogadishu by the peacekeepers and Somali troops.

GERMAN PUBLISHER COMPLAINS TO EU COURT OVER TURKEY DETENTION OF JOURNALIST

“German publisher complains to EU court over Turkey detention of journalist”>The publisher of Germany’s Die Welt and Welt am Sonntag newspapers has filed a formal complaint at the European Court of Justice about Turkey’s detention of German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yucel since February, the newspaper reported on Saturday.
Turkish authorities arrested Yucel in February on charges of propaganda in support of a terrorist organisation and inciting public violence, amid a large-scale crackdown on alleged supporters of a failed military coup in Turkey a year ago.
Yucel has already filed a separate complaint with the European Court that is being supported by the German government. Berlin has repeatedly called for the release of Yucel and other Germans being held in Turkey and the detentions have contributed to a sharp deterioration in relations between the two NATO allies.  BRAZILIAN SOLDIERS ENTER RIO SLUMS

Brazilian soldiers enter Rio slums amid violence spike;
More than 3,500 Brazilian soldiers are occupying a series of slum communities in northern Rio de Janeiro as part of efforts to combat a spike in violence. The troops moved into the Complexo do Lins communities and neighboring Camarista Meier in the early hours of Saturday. Defense Minister Raul Jungmann told Globo TV that the troops would stay there as long as necessary. Last week 8,500 soldiers were deployed in Rio to fight organized crime gangs, which control many of the city’s slums. Brazilian television showed soldiers armed with automatic rifles sitting atop tanks as they patrolled the communities. Mounting violence in Rio has led authorities to acknowledge in recent weeks that much of the city is out of their control.

ASEAN, CHINA ON SOUTH CHINA SEA

“ASEAN, China adopt framework for crafting code on South China Sea”>Foreign ministers of Southeast Asia and China adopted on Sunday a negotiating framework for a code of conduct in the South China Sea, a move they hailed as progress but seen by critics as tactic to buy China time to consolidate its maritime power.
The framework seeks to advance a 2002 Declaration of Conduct (DOC) of Parties in the South China Sea, which has mostly been ignored by claimant states, particularly China, which has built seven manmade islands in disputed waters, three of which are equipped with runways, surface-to-air missiles and radars.
Southeast Asian nations were battling today to find a compromise on how to deal with Chinese expansionism in the South China Sea. Diplomats involved in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN, Foreign Ministers meet told a news agency that they failed to release a joint statement as scheduled yesterday evening with Cambodia lobbyed hard for Beijing. They said, the tense follow-up negotiations this morning could still not end the stand-off.
The tense talks came after Vietnam, which also claims parts of the strategically vital sea, insisted that tough language be inserted into the statement expressing concern over Chinese land reclamation in the contested waters.
One of the diplomats said, Vietnam is adamant and China is effectively using Cambodia to champion its interests. Cambodia, one of China’s strongest allies within ASEAN, had firmly resisted. They said, Philippines is trying very hard to broker compromise language.
China claims nearly all of the South China Sea, including waters approaching the coasts of ASEAN members Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei. China has in recent years expanded its presence in the sea by building artificial islands, which are capable of holding military bases.
All parties say the framework is only an outline for how the code will be established but critics say the failure to outline as an initial objective the need to make the code legally binding and enforceable, or have a dispute resolution mechanism, raises doubts about how effective the pact will be. WHEN TEAM BAADSHAHO TRAVELLED FOR 5000 KMS TO SHOOT THE FILM

Baadshaho_still
Milan Luthria’s upcoming film Baadshaho featuring Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Vidyut Jammwal, Ileana D’Cruz, Esha Gupta and Sanjay Mishra has been shot on real and raw locations of Rajasthan which includes Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Ranautar, and Kuldhara. Producers Bhushan Kumar and Milan Luthria spared no expense in showcasing places which gave a rugged and rustic feel, as opposed to creating them on sets.
The crew did extensive recces with local line producers and guides in remote desert areas, where there are no structures, even network, for miles.
Though people got a glimpse of these stunning locations in the teaser, not many know about the travel time that the actors had to put in to reach these locations. While shooting in Ranautar, the actors had to travel for 103 kms each way every day. Relay security teams were posted every few Km to convey messages on walkie talkies. The village itself was unique, with inhabitants who drink only goat’s milk all theirs lives, with not a piece of grain, vegetables, or meat.
The climax was shot in Asia’s largest limestone quarry, 58 kms from Jaisalmer city.  Added to this was the 330 Kms distance each between Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Bikaner.
At the end of the shoot, Milan did a rough calculation and was shocked to realize that they had traveled more than 5000 Km in all.
Within the famous but extremely narrow blue lanes of Jodhpur, car transport was tough, and relays of bouncers were set in place. The actors traveled in auto rickshaws, with Emraan and Esha once getting into the wrong one in the throng of fans.
Apart from this, the cast and crew battled extreme ends of the weather spectrum. The temperature in January when the shoot began was was two degrees, and when it ended in March it was up to 38 degrees, with accompanying sandstorms.
Director Milan Luthria got dirty looks from all his actors, but every time they saw the location they had driven so long to reach, they admitted it left them speechless.
Baadshaho, directed by Milan Luthria, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar & Milan Luthria releases on 1st September 2017.

BENGALURU BOYS JOSHI, CHIKKA, STAY IN THE HUNT, HOT ON LEADER POOM’S HEELS

Lohan equals tournament best 64, Dharma fires albatross
Bengaluru, August 5, 2017: Overnight leader Poom Saksansin’s lead was reduced from four shots to two on the penultimate day of the TAKE Solutions Masters 2017 as the Indian duo of Khalin Joshi and Chikkarangappa, both Bengaluru lads, gave the Thai a run for his money at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) course.
While Saksansin (70) led the field at 12-under-201, Khalin Joshi’s hard-earned three-under-68 kept him in second at a total of 10-under-203 at the US$300,000 event co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and PGTI. Chikka’s two-under-69 meant he closed the day in third place at eight-under-205.
Khalin Joshi (68-67-68), trailing leader Poom by four at the start of the day, seemed up for the fight on the first five holes as he struck it well to pick up two birdies. But a poor tee shot on the sixth just broke his rhythm as he dropped his first shot of the day. Joshi, still looking for his maiden Asian Tour title, conceded another bogey and a double-bogey over the next three holes.
Khalin, who was seven off the lead after 10 holes, then rallied with an incredible five birdies on the back-nine to close the gap to two shots. The 24-year-old, playing at his home course, landed it within six feet on four occasions on the back-nine.
Joshi said, “I have mixed feelings about the round as I didn’t play that well. The front-nine was poor but I had a good comeback on the back-nine.
“I felt I was just hurrying it a little towards the end of the front-nine and that affected my momentum. Importantly, I didn’t give up and hung in there despite those dropped shots on the front-nine.
“Thereafter the birdie on the 11th helped me calm down. The birdie on the 14th despite a poor tee shot also lifted my spirits. I enjoyed a great stretch from there on including a quality par-save on the 17th.
“I’ll carry some confidence from the latter stages of the round. I’ve not played my best today, but I hope I can bring out my ‘A’ game tomorrow and finish the week in style.
“I’ll be working on my swing today and will look to make an early run in the final round with some birdies at the start. The focus will be to play error-free golf.”
Chikkarangappa (68-68-69), like his friend Khalin, also had a much better back-nine on day three. He was one-over at the turn but then sank some long putts from a range of 10 to 20 feet for his four birdies in the second half that helped him end the day with a 69.
Chikka, who won his last tournament here, a PGTI event, back in October 2016, pulled out a new three-wood on Saturday in order to fix the issue he had with his tee shots on day two.
Chikka, a two time winner on the Asian Development Tour, said, “I didn’t use the driver today and only teed off with the three-wood and that helped. The birdie on 18 was very special. I really wanted to be in the leader group so I told my caddy that I’ll either gain or lose a shot so I attacked the green. I then two-putted from 50-feet for birdie.
“The final round is going to be good fun playing with my good friends Khalin (Joshi) and Poom (Saksansin). We played a lot of junior golf together and we will really battle it out tomorrow.“It makes a lot of difference for me (to be in the last group) because I know what the guys are doing. I have a higher chance to be aggressive and go for shots which I have to.“It is absolutely like when I won my first ADT event (in 2014). I was six shots behind and I won. I’m still looking for one solid round so hopefully it comes on the final day.“There’s a lot of advantage of being a local boy. There will be a huge crowd supporting Khalin and me on Sunday.”
Abhinav Lohan of the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurgaon, matched the tournament’s best score of 64 to rise from overnight tied 32nd to tied fourth at seven-under-206.
Lohan said, “I feel good. I made a few mistakes yesterday. I made a nine on a par-five so it was nice to shoot a low round today. I hit it close and rolled my putts in. I kept it fairly simple.
“I’m wearing Shubhankar Sharma’s pants so maybe that’s why it brought me luck. We are staying with Khalin (Joshi) this week and Shubhankar had three of the same pants and we use the same size. He gave one to me and I said I’ll wear it tomorrow! So I guess this is his lucky pants.”
Kolkata’s Divyanshu Bajaj, who posted a third round of 69, shared the fourth spot with Lohan to make it four Indians in the top-five.
Ajeetesh Sandhu and Syed Saqib Ahmed, placed tied eighth at five-under-208, were the other Indians in the top-10.
The Indian quartet of Jyoti Randhawa, Rahil Gangjee, Viraj Madappa and Sujjan Singh were bunched together in tied 13th at four-under-209.
M Dharma, another Bengaluru golfer, made an exceptional albatross on the par-five fifth when he holed his three-wood approach from a distance of 270 yards. He carded a 69 to be placed tied 18th at three-under-210 along with the likes of fellow Indians Gaganjeet Bhullar, Manu Gandas and Honey Baisoya.
Indians Shiv Kapur, SSP Chawrasia, Shubhankar Sharma and Aman Raj were tied for 25th at two-under-211.
