Belgium battle past Spain to claim fifth place at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga StadiumBhubaneswar, India: The final of the Odisha Men’s Hockey World League Final Bhubaneswar 2017 will be a mouth-watering clash between the respective world and Olympic champions, with Australia set to meet Rio 2016 gold medallists Argentina in the championship match on Sunday.Australia overcame stern resistance from Germany to emerge with a 3-0 win to maintain their hopes of defending the Hockey World League title that they won in Lucknow two years ago, setting up a clash with Los Loenes, the top ranked team in the game.”The Pool B meeting between Australia (FIH Hero World Ranking: 2) and Germany (WR: 5) finished with the scores locked together at 2-2, hinting that their semi-final rematch could also be a close one.However, Germany’s chances of success were hampered by the fact that they were missing five players from their squad, with one being injured and the others being unable to play due to illness.Despite having only 13 players fit for action – one of which was reserve goalkeeper Mark Appel, who was used as an outfield substitute – Die Honamas produced a startling performance, matching their opponents in the opening period and coming close to opening the scoring with a penalty corner that was brilliantly saved by the outstretched foot of Australia goalkeeper Tyler Lovell.Germany’s depleted squad somehow reached half time with the match scoreless but found the third and fourth quarters tough going as the constant Australian running began to take its toll on Germany’s rapidly tiring legs.Germany’s stubborn resistance finally broke with three minutes of the third quarter remaining, with Dylan Wotherspoon smashing a glorious backhand strike into the bottom corner from a tight angle following a period of dominance from the mighty Kookaburras.Jeremy Hayward moved his side even closer to a place in the competition final with a trademark penalty corner drag-flick goal early in the final quarter before Germany went for broke, replacing their goalkeeper with an outfield player in order to have one last attempt to crack open Australia’s defence. New Delhi: 9 December, 2017:International Watercolor Society of India, under the aegis of International Watercolor Society is organizing the prestigious International Watercolor Society India Biennale 2017 at the AIFACS, 1 Rafi Marg, New Delhi from 9 to 14 December, 2017.
Works of 450 watercolor artists from 50 different countries including national and international masters will be exhibited during this 6 day art extravaganza.Under the theme of Harmony through Watercolor, the grand opening and cultural programme is being held at3:30 pm on 9December, 2017. This Grand Opening at AIFACS will happen after Live Demonstrations of 7 master artists, including that of Mr Atanur Dogan, Founder and President, International Watercolor Society (from Turkey). In the august company of Chief Guest, Shri Adwaita Charan Gadanayak, Director General, Modern Art Gallery; Special Guest – Mr Sakir Ozkan Torunlar, Ambassador of Turkey, Guests of Honours – Shri Ram V Sutar, Padma Bhushan & Chairman, AIFACS; Shri Naresh Kumar, IAS & Chairman, NDMC; Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS & CEO, Delhi Jal Board; and Shri Atanur Dogan (Turkey), President, International Watercolor Society; the 2nd edition will be declared open officially.
Exhibitions, Discussions, Seminars, Demonstrations by World Master Artists would be the highlights of the 6 day 2ndInternational Watercolor Society India Biennale for which delegates are converging in New Delhi to share and get enriched in the process of watercolor paintings and techniques. Awards will also be distributed on the inaugural day including those to the Best Artists in Floral painting, Best Artists in Stylized painting, Best Artists in Landscape painting and Best Artists in Portrait watercolor painting category (3 recipients each). Apart from this 5 Mention of Honor and IWS India Award and 3 winners of Online Watercolor Contest awards will also be given away to the deserving painters.
International Watercolor Society (IWS) is the sole international organization representing the most prestigious and talented watercolor artists in more than 90 countries in the world. This second edition of the India Biennale is being organized by the Indian chapter of International Watercolor Society India Biennale in New Delhi. This Festival can be thoroughly enjoyed by all art buyers, artists, art students and above all watercolor painting lovers. World Record 75 meter long watercolor painting will be one of the highlights of this biennale which will be accomplished at the Central Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi on 11thDecember, 2017. Alongwith the partners New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and Metropolis this will also be registered by Face International Book of Records.
Amit Kapoor, Vice President, International Watercolor Society and Country Head, said on the occasion “To promote in India this most traditional medium of art– watercolor painting and its artists since the genre is on a decline is the intention of organizing this biennale. International Watercolor Society is working towards the promotion of this declining genre and for this it is organizing free demonstrations, festivals and seminars to promote this art form. We at IWS want to spread love, peace and harmony through the usage of watercolor. Works of watercolor painters of more than 60 countries is being exhibited and all these painters are interested in knowing each other and promoting love and harmony more than increasing competitiveness.
Budding Watercolor artists can gather experience and courage through this Biennale. They can see and experience the type of techniques, usage, new idioms being explored by watercolor painters across India and the world are using to share their expressions. They can also learn the scenario of this genre outside India, whether artists in this field are able make money (be self reliant) and whether they are able to sell their paintings and whether they are eventually famous’’ added Mr Kapoor.
Shri Atanur Dogan from Turkey, Founder and President, International Watercolor Society said on the occasion “When so many artists come together, so many exhibitors come together, so many castes, so many creeds, so many colors, so many races, so many nationalities, so many religions also come together. And if this togetherness is for spreading love and peace and the goal is to work together towards promotion of a particular genre of art and art itself. Harmony is achieved. This is what we call Harmony through watercolor. This year artists from China, Russia, Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Turkey are all converging in India – in total 25 to 30 nationalities are going to be present here together, some would not look each other in eye but for the love of watercolor they are going to be here together, Watercolor is our language and the message is Harmony.”

Macron wins German European unity prize
French President Emmanuel Macron has been awarded a prestigious German prize for contributions to European unity in recognition of his “vision of a new Europe,” AP said. The International Charlemagne Prize is awarded annually by the city of Aachen, near the Belgian and Dutch borders. Previous winners include former US President Bill Clinton and Popes Francis and John Paul II. Friday’s statement cited Macron’s “vision of a new Europe and of the re-establishment of the European project, of a new European sovereignty.” It also said Macron’s election in May “proved once again that Europe is indeed capable of generating enthusiasm.” The prize ceremony is held in May in Aachen, from where the Holy Roman emperor Charlemagne once ruled a swath of western Europe.
