Faridabad, Haryana, May 30, 2018: Dhruv Sheoran of the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurugram, made it two wins in two weeks on the PGTI Feeder Tour with his well-deserved one-stroke victory at the second event of the season in Faridabad, Haryana.
The 23-year-old Sheoran (71-70-70), who won the season-opener at the BSF Golf Club in Chhawla, Delhi, last week, continued his domination of the Feeder Tour by signing off with a two-under-70 at the Aravalli Golf Club on Wednesday that helped him finish with a winning total of five-under-211. Sheoran was the only player in the field to post three sub-par rounds.
Delhi-based Bikramjit Singh Sandhu (72-71-69) recorded a career-best second place finish after he carded a three-under-69 in the last round that took his total to four-under-212 at the Rs. 8 lakh event.
Rookie Dhruv Sheoran, lying overnight tied second, overcame a two-shot deficit after mixing five birdies with three bogeys in round three. Dhruv was one-over through 11 holes before he got his round going with consecutive birdies on the 12th and 13th.
After conceding a bogey on the 16th, Sheoran trailed nearest rival Bikramjit Singh Sandhu by one shot. However, a composed Sheoran turned it around with birdies on the last two holes to snatch a spectacular victory from the jaws of defeat.
Dhruv, who took home the winner’s purse of Rs. 1,01,720, now enjoys a significant lead in the Feeder Tour Order of Merit as his season’s earnings read Rs. 2,03,440. Bikramjit is placed a distant second at Rs. 97,040.
Sheoran said, “My aim at the start of the season was to try putting myself into contention every time. I’ve done that well so far. My calmness under pressure has been my strength as was evident today as I came back well after every setback.
“I didn’t lose patience after being one-over through 11 holes and then despite the bogey on the 16th made a remarkable comeback with a couple of crucial birdie conversions on the last two holes.
“To be honest, I was very confident of making the decisive birdie on the last hole as I had birdied the 18th for two days in succession. I managed to do it again with a clutch putt from eight feet that earned me the title.
“The key to my success over the last two weeks has been the fact that I’m not thinking too much on the course and instead just enjoying myself. My ball-control has also been excellent. These two wins have given me loads of confidence that will also help me perform better on the main tour later this year.”
Bikramjit Singh Sandhu, who was overnight tied fourth, gained two positions on Wednesday after shooting a 69 that included five birdies and two bogeys.
Jaipur’s Vishal Singh, the leader in the first two rounds, slipped to tied third after a round of 76 on day three. Vishal shared the third spot at one-under-215 along with Delhi golfers Vikram Rana and Shaurya Singh and Karnal’s Maniram.
Faridabad’s Ramesh Kumar finished tied 11th at five
